Born in 1977, Luanda, Angola, Ondjaki is one of the most prolific young Portuguese-language writers in Africa today. Since his literary debut in 2000, Ondjaki has published more than twenty fictional works, including novel, short-stories, novellas, plays, children`s books, film, and poetry. He has been awarded some of the most prestigious literary prizes in the Portuguese-speaking world.
On April 15th he came to UGA to lecture about his hometown Luanda and discuss his documentary,”Oxalá cresçam pitangas” (May the Pitanga Cherries Grow – Tales of Luanda) (2006). He had lunch at LACSI with some Flagship students and Professors and engaged them in a stimulating conversation, prior to his lecture.
